Green Heroes – Celebrating Local Environmental Action in Mansfield

Green Heroes is a community-led exhibition that I managed and delivered, celebrating the people, groups and everyday actions helping to protect and care for Mansfield’s natural environment.

Developed as part of Mansfield Museum’s Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation programme, the project brings together stories of local environmental work through film, photography and digital interpretation. I was responsible for managing the project and creating all of the photography, working closely with contributors to document their work and capture the people behind local conservation, sustainability and environmental education efforts.

A real highlight of the project has been meeting and building relationships with local environmental and community groups across the district. Spending time with individuals and organisations already doing vital work has reinforced the importance of listening, collaboration and working beyond the museum walls to share stories that are often underrepresented.

The exhibition reflects my approach to community-focused digital practice — using creative tools to amplify local voices and create accessible ways for audiences to engage with important issues. Green Heroes shares real stories from Mansfield and the surrounding area, encouraging visitors to reflect on how environmental action often begins at a local level.

This project marks the start of an ongoing conversation. I’m excited to continue developing Green Heroes with local groups, exploring how the project can grow and evolve through further collaboration, digital storytelling and shared learning.
